Wike-Backed PDP Faction Takes Control of Abuja Secretariat After Court Victory

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has taken control of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja following its reopening by the Nigeria Police Force.

This was confirmed on Saturday in a statement issued by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, through its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed. The committee warned that it would not tolerate any form of disruption or breach of peace at the secretariat going forward.

The PDP has been grappling with a prolonged internal crisis, which escalated on November 18 when rival factions clashed at its headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The confrontation involved a group led by Tanimu Turaki, reportedly backed by Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, and the Wike-aligned faction under Mohammed.

After months of legal disputes, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Wike’s camp on March 9, nullifying the Ibadan convention held on November 16 and endorsed by some governors.

Reacting to the development, the Mohammed-led NWC commended the police for what it described as professionalism and respect for the rule of law, noting that the secretariat and Legacy House in Maitama had been unsealed and handed over in line with court orders.

The committee also cautioned individuals and groups against actions that could disrupt activities at the secretariat, stressing that security agencies have been placed on alert to deal with any violators.

Describing the development as a resolution of the party’s internal challenges, the NWC urged aggrieved members to put aside their differences and embrace unity.

It also expressed appreciation to party leaders and stakeholders, particularly Wike, for their support and leadership during the crisis, pledging a renewed commitment to unity and the party’s collective vision.
