In a move to boost morale following the successful conclusion of the 2026 National Police Day, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has officially approved a two-week rest period for all personnel who participated in the nationwide parade.

​Scope of the Directive

​The directive was issued via an internal wireless signal from the IGP Secretariat. To ensure seamless coordination, the communication was distributed to major formations, including:

• ​Core Departments: Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), ICT, and Federal Operations.
• ​Technical Units: NPF Signals and the National Command and Control Centre.
• ​Field Commands: State Commissioners of Police and Mobile Police (MOPOL) units.
• ​Administrative Oversight: The Department of Operations in Abuja received the signal for official record-keeping.

​Eligibility and Reasoning

​The break is strictly reserved for officers and men who were actively involved in the parade. The official signal stated:

​“GRATEFUL BE INFORMED THAT X INGENPOL HAS GRACIOUSLY APPROVED X TWO WEEKS BREAK X FOR ALL OFFICERS AND MEN X INVOLVED IN THE JUST CONCLUDED 2026 POLICE DAY PARADE.”

​Police leadership emphasized that this gesture acknowledges the "demanding exercise" of the event. The National Police Day parade requires months of rigorous rehearsal and high-level operational coordination to showcase the Force's discipline and readiness.

​Immediate Implementation

​The break is expected to take effect immediately. Commanders of the listed units have been charged with verifying eligibility to ensure that only those who participated in the rehearsals and final event benefit from the leave.

​By granting this time off, the Force leadership aims to allow personnel to recuperate while fostering a sense of appreciation across the ranks.
