The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday morning paid a visit to the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Wadata Plaza in Abuja.
Wike was received at the party’s headquarters by the PDP National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, in what appears to be a significant development amid the party’s lingering internal crisis.
The visit comes shortly after a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Wike reportedly took control of the party’s national secretariat following the unsealing of the facility by the Nigeria Police Force.
Reports indicate that the unsealing of the secretariat paved the way for the Wike-aligned faction to assert its presence at the party’s headquarters.
The PDP has been embroiled in a prolonged leadership crisis, which escalated into chaos on November 18 at Wadata Plaza in Abuja. The crisis involved a clash between two rival factions of the National Working Committee (NWC).
One faction, led by Tanimu Turaki and backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, alongside Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, reportedly confronted another faction aligned with Wike under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The takeover of the secretariat was confirmed in a statement issued by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led NWC through its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.
The faction warned that any actions capable of causing disruption or violence within the party would not be tolerated.
It also commended the Nigeria Police for its professionalism, stating that the unsealing of the secretariat demonstrates respect for the rule of law and adherence to due process.
