Popular Nigerian sports broadcast journalist, Temisan Okomi, has passed away.
The sad development was made public on Friday by News Central journalist, Olawale Adigun, via a post on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle.
Reacting to the loss, Adigun expressed deep grief over Okomi’s passing, describing it as a painful way to begin the weekend.
“The worst way to go into the weekend is hearing about Temisan Okomi’s passing. I’m so gutted and, at the same time, terrified. This man meant so much to me,” he wrote.
Until his death, Okomi was a respected voice in sports broadcasting and worked with Classic FM 97.3. He also had stints with Lagos Television and HiTV, among other notable media organisations in Nigeria.
His last known social media post was made on April 14, 2026, where he wrote about the intensity of the UEFA Champions League, saying, “The Champions League is hard, man.”
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Enzo Fernandez is expected to return to action for Chelsea FC this weekend after serving an internal suspension.
The midfielder had stirred controversy during the international break after granting interviews in which he expressed a desire to live in Spain’s capital in the future, reigniting transfer links with Real Madrid.
His agent, Javier Pastore, attempted to overturn the suspension, but the appeal was unsuccessful. Fernandez subsequently missed Chelsea’s 7-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over Port Vale and their 3-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City.
Concerns have also been raised about his long-term future at Stamford Bridge, especially as Chelsea continue to struggle in their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
