Panic has gripped parts of Benue State following the reported abduction of no fewer than 14 candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) by unidentified gunmen.

According to reports, the victims were kidnapped during an attack on a commercial bus travelling from Makurdi to Otukpo.

The incident reportedly occurred as the candidates, mostly young adults, were on their way to Otukpo to sit for their examinations scheduled for Thursday.

Confirming the development, the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, said the victims were en route to write their exams when the attackers struck.

“The victims are young people coming to Otukpo to write JAMB. Security agents have been deployed and efforts are ongoing to rescue them,” Ogiri stated.

Security agencies have since launched a search operation to rescue the abducted candidates, as concerns grow over rising insecurity in the region.
