Public affairs analyst Mahmud Jega has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to tread carefully amid the ongoing internal crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The party is currently facing turmoil, leading to the derecognition of former Senate President David Mark as national chairman and the national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.
Speaking on Prime Time on Friday, Jega alleged that the crisis is deliberately engineered and warned that INEC risks creating the impression of being complicit in efforts to weaken opposition parties.
“The crisis in the ADC is being engineered. And INEC has to be very careful,” he said. “The impression INEC is giving is that it is part of the scheme to destroy all opposition parties… The opposition wanted the ADA; INEC sat on it for 2 years. Now they have moved to ADC, and they are coming up with something else.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, criticised the David Mark faction of the ADC for allegedly resorting to emotional appeals instead of resolving the party’s legal issues.
In a post on his 𝕏 account, Keyamo advised the party to seek faster court resolution, pursue a political agreement, or explore more secure political options to prevent further complications.
The ongoing crisis has intensified concerns over the stability of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, highlighting the need for swift and transparent resolution.
