Hon. Sunday Aghedo, the lawmaker representing Ovia South West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, has recorded over 30 developmental projects across key sectors within two years in office, positioning himself as a standout figure in grassroots governance.
Aghedo’s political journey was marked by controversy after his initial electoral victory was challenged. Despite setbacks allegedly linked to the Peoples Democratic Party, he pursued legal redress and eventually reclaimed his mandate, a move widely seen as a testament to his resilience.
Massive Projects Across Key Sectors
In the education sector, the lawmaker has executed multiple projects, including the construction and renovation of classroom blocks in communities such as Gbolowosho, Omorodion, Iguelaihor, Itagbene, and Umaza. Several schools also benefited from the provision of desks, benches, and perimeter fencing, while additional renovation works are ongoing in Iguoriaki.
Healthcare infrastructure has also received attention, with the construction of a comprehensive health centre in Asamara aimed at improving access to basic medical services for residents.
To address water scarcity, Aghedo facilitated the drilling and rehabilitation of boreholes in communities including Umaza, Urhezen, Obobaifo, Hlassan, and Izide-Noke, with some projects still ongoing.
Power and Infrastructure Boost
In the energy sector, the lawmaker implemented electrification projects across multiple communities. These include the installation of transformers in Okoro, Aden, and Oke-Ayor, as well as the extension of electricity supply to previously underserved areas like Iguokaikhen.
Solar street lights were also deployed in several communities, including Iguokunzuwa, Iguelaihor, Umaza, and Efa, improving safety and economic activities at night.
On infrastructure, a town hall project is currently ongoing in Siluko Community, while a bridge linking Kekere (Ogbuama) Community has been completed to enhance connectivity.
Focus on Inclusive Development
Observers note that the projects are strategically distributed across communities in Ovia South West, reflecting a deliberate effort to ensure inclusive development.
Speaking on his achievements, Aghedo emphasised his commitment to delivering tangible results, noting that governance should directly impact the lives of the people.
A Growing Reputation
Political analysts say Aghedo’s performance highlights a shift toward results-driven representation at the state level, where measurable development is increasingly becoming the benchmark for public office holders.
With over 30 projects delivered in less than two years, residents of Ovia South West Constituency say the lawmaker’s efforts have significantly improved living conditions, particularly in rural communities.
As development continues across the constituency, Aghedo’s leadership is being closely watched as a model of project-focused governance in Edo State.
