Nnamdi Kanu: Stop Deceiving Nigerians With Hypocritical Sermonising – APC Blasts Peter Obi

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his recent comments on the judicial proceedings involving the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Obi had earlier cautioned that the conviction of Kanu could heighten tensions rather than calm them, urging the Federal Government to adopt a more conciliatory approach.

However, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC accused Obi of seeking political relevance by inserting himself into the matter.

According to the party, “Obi’s misguided attempt to ‘tackle’ the Federal Government and reject a valid court ruling is nothing more than the cry of a man whose political career is in its last embarrassing throes. He is desperately fishing in troubled waters, hoping to harvest sympathy that the Nigerian people have already denied him at the polls.”

Oladejo further alleged that Obi had failed to condemn violent activities linked to IPOB, yet was attempting to “preach morality” to the Nigerian state.

He described Obi’s recent statements as “fraudulent,” adding that his “selective outrage” amounted to an attempt to frame acts of terrorism as emotional or regional grievances.

The statement continued: “The salient question Peter Obi must answer is simple: Why the inconsistency in his position? How does he condemn Boko Haram wholeheartedly in one breath, only to rationalise IPOB in another?

“This two-faced political morality exposes his deep-seated bias, his hollow rhetoric and his desperate ambition disguised as compassion.”

The Lagos APC urged Obi to approach the judgment objectively, free from ethnic sentiment, and be transparent about his political motivations.

“There is nothing wrong in admitting he is a regional champion committed to defending ‘his own’. What is wrong is deceiving Nigerians with feigned neutrality and hypocritical sermonising,” the statement added.

The party also questioned Obi’s past silence on security challenges in the South-East, asking why he “could not condemn IPOB with clarity or courage” and why he “continually plays both sides of the fence.”
