Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia says she remains unfazed by public criticism surrounding her recent Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and liposuction procedures, insisting that much of the backlash stems from ignorance and hypocrisy.

Speaking in an interview with TheCable, the actress acknowledged that reactions to her body enhancement have been mixed but stated that she chooses to focus on the positive feedback.

“It’s been 50/50 — both praises and backlash,” she said. “I focus more on the praises rather than the backlash from people who are not exposed enough to understand the advantages of body enhancement.”

Etinosa described many of her critics as individuals who secretly desire the same procedures but lack the financial means to pursue them.

“I feel so sorry for the people who were dragging me because they are so backward,” she remarked. “Some people are just hypocrites — they want it but can’t afford it, so they demonise it.”

Drawing parallels between misinformation on cosmetic surgery and past health-related rumours, she argued that the lack of accessible, credible information contributes to fear and stigma.

“I remember the Ebola season when people talked about drinking salt,” she said. “That’s the same way people talk about body enhancement. Many haven’t read about it, and those who know keep it a secret, which leaves others vulnerable to wrong information and potential danger.”

The actress emphasised that insecurities are universal and not created by social media. According to her, body enhancement is simply another way people choose self-improvement when they have the means.

“If you knew what my stomach used to look like and the embarrassment I sometimes felt… But because I have strong self-worth, I didn’t let it stop me. Now that I can afford to make it better, why not?”

Etinosa further noted that many of her critics also modify their appearance through wigs, artificial nails, microblading, and other cosmetic enhancements, yet feel entitled to judge others for undergoing surgery.

“The people criticising are wearing wigs and artificial nails, so they don’t have the right to judge someone who did cosmetic surgery,” she said. “I’m not even done enhancing my body.”
