Suspected terrorists, locally described as bandits, have abducted 10 people, including seven members of a single family, in Kaduna State, authorities confirmed.
The attack occurred around 9:32 pm on Thursday in Unguwar Sabon-Titi, along the Katari–Hayin Dam road in Kachia Local Government Area, according to a resident, Markus Yakubu.
Yakubu said the heavily armed assailants first stormed a residential compound, quietly taking members of one family before moving to a neighbouring house to abduct three more people.
"The bandits came in large numbers and surrounded my neighbour’s house. Some of them entered and whisked away members of the family. They then proceeded to another house and abducted three more people," he explained.
He noted that the attackers initially refrained from gunfire, possibly due to the close proximity of the Divisional Police Officer’s residence, before opening fire after moving the victims.
The abducted individuals were identified as Jummai Amos, Barnabas Amos, Iko Amos, Baby Amos, Eunice Amos, Eshiwan Amos, and Godwin Amos from one household, while the three others—Bagudu Damisa, Evelyn Damisa, and Alfred Iriyo—were taken from a neighbouring home.
Community sources said security operatives have launched an extensive search operation, combing nearby forests in an effort to locate the bandits and rescue the abductees.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Hassan Mansur, for comment were unsuccessful.
This incident follows another deadly attack in the state. On Sunday night, terrorists stormed a wedding in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area, killing 13 guests and abducting several others. Residents described the attack as orchestrated, with assailants arriving in large numbers with sophisticated weapons, creating widespread fear and prompting many to flee their homes.
Security agencies continue to investigate both incidents as communities call for urgent intervention to address the escalating violence in rural areas of Kaduna State.
