Legal Expert Urges President Tinubu’s Resignation Amid Worsening Insecurity

Legal practitioner Maduabuchi Idam has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign if his administration remains unable to tackle Nigeria’s escalating security crisis. In a pointed statement issued Saturday, Idam argued that the government’s failure to protect its citizens warrants a change in leadership.

Describing resignation as an "honorable and legitimate" path, Idam emphasized that stepping down is not a taboo for a leader who can no longer guarantee public safety. While acknowledging the complexity of Nigeria’s security landscape, he questioned the President’s efficacy—noting that Tinubu had campaigned on a platform of readiness for the role.

Furthermore, Idam criticized the presidency’s reliance on an "outdated doctrinal security template." He contended that conventional military maneuvers and manual combat are ineffective against the asymmetrical warfare, such as banditry and terrorism, currently destabilizing the nation.
