A fresh leadership crisis has erupted within the Zamfara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as two rival factions lay claim to the party’s structure following a controversial congress.

One faction, led by Malam Mohammed Mainasara, insists it was duly authorised by the party’s national leadership to organise and supervise the congress in the state. Mainasara disclosed that he chaired the committee responsible for the exercise, with Ambassador Zubairu Yalwa serving as secretary alongside other members.

He explained that the committee successfully conducted the congress, which led to the emergence of a new State Executive Committee (EXCO) through a consensus arrangement backed by key stakeholders in the party.

According to him, the process produced Malam Shehu Gulubba as State Chairman and Dr Ahmad Hashim as Secretary. Other positions include Jafafar Aliyu as Youth Leader and Maryam Abdullahi as Women Leader, among others.

However, the outcome has been strongly rejected by another faction led by Kabiru Garba Gusau, who maintains that he remains the legitimate state chairman of the party.

Gusau described the congress as invalid, alleging that it was orchestrated by individuals seeking to destabilise the party for political gains. He argued that any credible congress must involve broad consultation and consensus among all stakeholders.

He further revealed that his faction has petitioned security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), over the matter, stressing that they will not recognise the outcome of the disputed exercise.

In addition, Gusau announced plans to take disciplinary action against members who participated in the congress, insisting that as the recognised chairman, he has the authority to suspend or expel party members involved.

The development signals deepening internal divisions within the ADC in Zamfara, raising concerns about the party’s stability ahead of future political activities in the state.
