[JUST IN] ADC Fires Back at Presidency

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pushed back against criticism from the Presidency, insisting it will not be intimidated amid the ongoing dispute over its planned national convention.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC would proceed with its congresses and convention as scheduled, despite opposition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which reportedly derecognised its leadership.

Abdullahi reaffirmed that the party had duly notified INEC of its activities, which are set to run from April 7 to April 14, 2026, culminating in a national convention.

The ADC’s response follows a scathing remark by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who accused the party of engaging in illegality and warned of consequences.

“Just continue your illegality, the lawless ADC. The dog that wants to get lost in the forest will ignore the hunter’s whistle,” Onanuga had written on social media.

Reacting, Abdullahi dismissed the criticism, stating that the party would not comply with what it described as illegitimate directives.

“The hunter you speak of has no jurisdiction in this forest. ADC is not lost; we are simply not following unlawful whistles,” he said.

He further added, “Besides, don’t forget: the forest hides that which hunts the hunter,” in a sharp rebuttal to the presidential aide.

The ADC maintained that it remains committed to operating within the law and will not be deterred by political attacks, as tensions continue to rise over its internal crisis and the role of electoral authorities.

The exchange highlights deepening political friction ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and key actors increasingly locked in public confrontations.
