A grieving mother, Favour Ayuba, has stirred emotional reactions online after a video of her tearful farewell to her son, Promise Ayuba, surfaced following a deadly attack in Plateau State.
In the viral video shared on Friday, the bereaved woman was seen beside her son’s coffin, speaking through tears as she recounted the pain of losing him during the recent violence in Jos.
The tragic incident occurred on March 29 in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area, where suspected terrorists reportedly attacked residents. The assault, which coincided with Palm Sunday, left at least 24 people dead and several others injured.
In the emotional footage, Mrs. Ayuba, speaking in Hausa, expressed deep anguish over her son’s death. She revealed that she had not eaten since the day of the attack, overwhelmed by grief.
During the farewell, she placed a cutlass wrapped in white cloth inside the coffin, while tearfully addressing her late son and reflecting on the bond they shared. Her words, punctuated by sobs, captured the depth of her pain and loss.
She also recalled that the day of the burial coincided with her son’s birthday, adding another layer of sorrow to the already devastating moment. Despite her grief, she said she would try to remain strong and gradually resume eating.
Mrs. Ayuba further drew strength from the biblical story of Gideon, explaining that she named her son “Promise Gideon Ayuba” in hope that he would embody courage and victory.
The incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks that have continued to plague communities in Plateau State, raising fresh concerns over security in the region.
The emotional video has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy and calling for improved protection of lives and property.
