BREAKING: Wike’s Faction Takes Over PDP National Secretariat in Abuja

The long-standing power struggle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reached a turning point this weekend as the faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike officially took control of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The handover follows months of litigation and a police-enforced closure of the premises due to volatile internal disputes.

The Path to Reopening

The crisis, which saw the party split into two bitter camps, centered on a leadership vacuum that peaked during a violent confrontation at Wadata Plaza on November 18. The rivalry pitted a faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed (backed by Wike) against a group led by Tanimu Turaki (supported by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed).

The deadlock was finally broken by a Court of Appeal ruling on March 9, which:

  • Validated the leadership of the Wike-backed camp.
  • Nullified the rival November 16 Ibadan convention.
  • Mandated the police to enforce the restoration of constitutional order.

Police Handover and Official Warning

In compliance with the court order, the Nigeria Police Force unsealed both Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in Maitama, officially handing keys to National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyawu.

In a statement released by National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed, the party praised the police for their professionalism but issued a stern warning to agitators:

"The Party strongly warns that it will not condone any act capable of causing obstruction, disruption, or breach of peace at the secretariat again... security agencies have been duly alerted to take necessary action against violators."

A Call for Unity and Gratitude

The NWC expressed profound gratitude to Nyesom Wike, citing his "invaluable guidance" as a cornerstone of their legal and political victory.

With the secretariat now fully operational, the current leadership is urging disgruntled members to "sheath their swords" and prioritize the collective interest of the party over individual grievances. Whether this takeover signals a permanent peace or a new chapter of friction remains to be seen, but for now, the gates of Wadata Plaza are once again open.
