The Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the suspension of its planned ward, local government, and state congresses earlier scheduled to hold between April 7 and April 14, 2026.
The party made this known in a communication addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party members, ward and local government executives, as well as the general public.
In a statement signed by the Abia State ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, the decision was attributed to a recent Appeal Court ruling which upheld the status quo ante bellum.
Obinna explained that the ruling led to the removal of the David Mark-led National Working Committee from INEC’s official website.
He further disclosed that INEC, in compliance with the court judgment, directed ADC state officials not to oversee the planned congresses and the party’s National Convention.
The chairman clarified that the tenure of the current ward, local government, and state executives in Abia State remains valid and unaffected by the development.
He called on party members and stakeholders to remain calm and maintain unity during the period, urging them to avoid actions that could disrupt peace.
“Party members, leaders and stakeholders are urged to remain calm, stay positive, and promote the constructive message of ADC while refraining from acts that could disturb peace in their areas,” he said.
Obinna assured that efforts were ongoing to reposition the party and restore stability, adding that members would be duly informed of any new developments.
