A member of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has shared chilling details of how he and 37 other worshippers were taken into a forest zone firmly under the control of terrorists after they were abducted during an evening service.
Naija News recalls that the victims, kidnapped on November 18 after gunmen stormed the church premises, regained their freedom on Sunday.
Speaking in an interview with TVC, the survivor narrated how the attackers struck less than an hour after the programme began.
“It was a sudden act, a terrifying act. About 30 minutes into the programme, we heard gunshots. At first, I didn’t even know it was gunshots — I thought it was sparks from an electrical wire,” he said.
He explained that panic set in when worshippers realised they were surrounded.
“By the time we got up, they had encircled the entire church. Some people even said they saw drops of blood everywhere,” he added.
‘They told us nobody escapes their territory’
The freed victim disclosed that the kidnappers openly identified themselves as bandits and repeatedly boasted about their dominance over the forest regions stretching across Kwara and neighbouring states.
“It was unimaginable. We didn’t know we were in a dominated area,” he said.
“They made us understand that no one can slip away without being caught. And from what we saw, it’s true — nobody can escape. They know all the routes linking the bushes across Kwara and other cities. They knew the terrain completely.”
The account aligns with growing concerns over the growing boldness and territorial dominance of armed groups operating across forest corridors in the North-Central region.
