The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the first Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in Abuja.
Hundeyin said the appointment followed the recent upgrade of the Nigeria Police Force Medical Section into a full-fledged Directorate, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery for police personnel nationwide.
He noted that the IGP congratulated AIG Eze on her appointment and urged her to bring her wealth of experience to bear in building a world-class medical service within the Force.
“Nkechi Eze is a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator who brings over 27 years of exemplary service to her new role,” the statement read in part.
Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and hailing from Agbudu, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) and a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.
Her career has spanned various police formations across Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she has contributed significantly to improving officers’ healthcare and welfare.
The IGP described the creation of the Directorate as a strategic investment in the well-being and productivity of police personnel, noting that improved health support is essential to the operational efficiency of the Force.
