FirstBank Launches Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Week with Focus on Charity and Environmental Impact
First Bank of Nigeria Limited (FirstBank) is set to kick off its Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week on Monday, featuring a series of activities centered on charity, kindness, and environmental stewardship. According to a statement by Folake Ani-Mumuney, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, the week-long event is designed to empower communities, reduce environmental impact, and further the bank’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the CR&S Week, FirstBank employees will have the opportunity to contribute their time and resources to various causes aligned with the bank’s strategic approach to corporate responsibility. A key highlight of the week will be the planting of 30,000 trees across Nigeria, advancing FirstBank’s goal of planting 50,000 trees by 2025 in partnership with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF).

Additionally, FirstBank will extend its support to Jigawa and Plateau States by raising awareness about Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), conducting surgeries, and providing post-care kits for affected individuals. These initiatives underscore the bank’s commitment to environmental care and humanitarian efforts, aligning with its sustainability strategy and support for the Green Recovery Nigeria initiative.

“At FirstBank, we remain committed to creating a positive impact in the lives of our customers and the communities we serve,” Ani-Mumuney stated. “Our 2024 CR&S Week is a testament to this dedication, and we are excited to amplify our efforts in enabling the Giants in the lives of our communities and enhance sustainable development and community growth.”

This year’s CR&S Week, now in its eighth edition, is themed “Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness” (SPARK), a value-based initiative that aligns with FirstBank’s ethos of compassion, civility, and charity. Last year, the CR&S Week saw participation from eight countries, involving over 80 charities and NGOs, with a positive impact on 30,000 lives.

FirstBank Group operates in several countries, including Nigeria, the UK, Gambia, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Ghana, and Senegal, as well as managing First Pension and First Nominees. As the CR&S Week unfolds, FirstBank invites everyone to embrace the spirit of kindness and make a lasting impact in their communities.
