Trump Sacks US Attorney General Pam Bondi

United States President Donald Trump has removed Attorney General Pam Bondi from her position, marking a major shake-up in his administration.

Trump announced the decision on his Truth Social platform, praising Bondi for her service while revealing that she would be “transitioning” into a private sector role to be announced later.

Bondi, a longtime ally and staunch defender of the president, is set to be replaced by her former deputy, Todd Blanche.

Her tenure as America’s top law enforcement officer was largely overshadowed by controversy surrounding the handling of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Justice Department faced intense backlash over the delayed release of documents and concerns about the protection of victims’ identities.

Despite the controversy, Trump commended Bondi’s performance, stating she had done “a tremendous job” in overseeing efforts to combat crime across the country.

However, reports indicate that the president had grown increasingly frustrated with her handling of the Epstein case, leading to a gradual erosion of his support in recent months.

Bondi, who assumed office in February 2025, had initially promised transparency, including the release of an alleged Epstein client list—later confirmed by the department as non-existent.

Reacting to her removal, Bondi described serving as attorney general as “the honour of a lifetime,” adding that she would work closely with Blanche to ensure a smooth transition. She also pledged to continue supporting Trump and his administration in her next role.

Her exit comes weeks after the removal of Kristi Noem as Homeland Security chief, making Bondi one of several high-profile departures in Trump’s current term.

Meanwhile, reactions have been mixed. Some Republican allies praised her leadership, while critics—including lawmakers from both parties—welcomed her departure, particularly over her handling of the Epstein investigation.

The development adds to growing political tensions in Washington, as lawmakers continue to demand full transparency and accountability over the Epstein case.

More details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
