The killing of Oba Kehinde Falodun in Akure North has sparked reactions from diaspora groups, including the American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), which described the incident as a serious blow to traditional leadership in Nigeria.

According to the group’s February 19 statement, the monarch was reportedly attacked in his palace by suspected gunmen. AVID expressed sorrow over the development and emphasized the need for stronger security measures nationwide.

The organization also referenced the legal situation of Nnamdi Kanu, asserting that broader political reconciliation could help ease tensions. The group criticized the life sentence delivered in Kanu’s case by James Omotosho.

AVID urged the United States Government and international bodies to encourage reforms aimed at restoring stability, while calling on Nigerian leaders to address security concerns urgently.
