IPOB REITERATES DEMAND FOR SENATOR ORJI UZOR KALU TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF THE ALLEGED 30,000 PEOPLE HE CLAIMS WERE KILLED BY IPOB AND ESN

The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, again calls on Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to publicly provide verifiable evidence supporting his recent claim that IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) murdered 30,000 people in the Southeast.

IPOB considers such an allegation exceedingly grave, and reiterates that no Nigerian—whether in politics or private life—has the moral right to casually weaponize genocide-level accusations without proof.

A Demand Rooted in Accountability, Not Politics

IPOB maintains that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu must understand that alleging mass murder is not a political insult or a campaign jab, but a criminal allegation with serious consequences. The movement stresses that the burden of proof lies squarely on the Senator, who has repeated this claim without producing a single name, identity, or evidence of the alleged victims.

Contextual Concerns About Orji Uzor Kalu’s Public Conduct

The movement reiterates long-standing concerns about the Senator’s political conduct while restating that allegations against IPOB cannot be used to deflect public scrutiny. IPOB notes that:

Senator Kalu has been widely criticized for his role in ceding the Lokpanta axis of Abia/Enugu highway to criminal groups, worsening insecurity along that corridor.

His tenure as governor was marred by allegations of public fund mismanagement and the emergence of a deeply entrenched godfatherism network that crippled Abia’s development for years.

His public claims of “founding” the Bakassi Vigilante Group have been disputed by residents and historians who confirm that the group existed before he assumed office in 1999.

IPOB further recalls incidents involving the politicisation of security groups in the state during his governorship, which contributed to violence and repression at the time.

On IPOB, ESN, and Distortion of Facts

IPOB restates, as it has many times, that:

IPOB is a peaceful, lawful self-determination movement operating within internationally recognised frameworks.

IPOB members are unarmed.

ESN is a defensive community vigilante outfit established to resist deadly attacks by armed Fulani militias in rural farmlands.

ESN has never been implicated in attacks on Igbo communities, a fact corroborated by the absence of any credible evidence by the Nigerian state.

IPOB emphasises that the Nigerian government has never provided verifiable proof of any mass killings carried out by ESN, despite years of accusations.

The movement draws a clear distinction between IPOB/ESN and state-backed violent splinter groups, including Autopilot and BLA, which IPOB maintains are sponsored by political actors such as Orji Uzor Kalu to undermine the movement.

A Challenge to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

IPOB therefore issues a direct and unambiguous challenge:

> Senator Orji Uzor Kalu must publicly present verifiable evidence, names, identities, and locations of the alleged 30,000 people he claims IPOB and ESN murdered.

If he is unable to do so, IPOB demands that he issue a clear, public apology for misleading the public with a highly inflammatory and baseless allegation.

Conclusion

The Indigenous People of Biafra call on the Nigerian public, media organisations, and the international community to insist on accountability from public office holders.

Accusing an entire movement of killing 30,000 people is not a political joke—it is a grave allegation that must be backed by evidence or withdrawn.

Until Senator Orji Uzor Kalu provides the proof he claims to have, IPOB considers his statement a deliberate falsehood designed for political gain.
