A delegation of Igbo spiritual mothers has paid a visit to detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

The delegation was led by Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, widely revered as Nne Mmanwu Igbo Niine (Mother of All Igbo Masquerades) and a former Commissioner for Works and Housing in Anambra State. She undertook the visit on behalf of Ndi Nne Mụọ Ala-Igbo nile—the titled spiritual mothers representing various communities across Igboland.

In a statement issued after the visit, the group expressed firm solidarity with Kanu, describing him as a beloved son of the Igbo nation. During the meeting, prayers were offered, ancestral blessings invoked, and symbolic items presented as expressions of maternal support and spiritual encouragement.

The delegation stated that its action reflects what it called the collective spiritual guardianship of the Igbo people, including both the living and their ancestors. It reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice and equity through peaceful and culturally rooted engagement.

The spiritual leaders also announced plans to expand their advocacy by consulting traditional rulers, respected elders, and spiritual authorities across Nigeria. According to them, the goal is to promote dialogue and mobilize broader support toward securing Kanu’s unconditional release.

They urged Nigerians, particularly sons and daughters of Ala-Igbo, to remain united in prayer and peaceful efforts aimed at restoring harmony and ensuring justice prevails.

Kanu continues to remain in detention as his legal battle unfolds, with developments in the case attracting nationwide attention.
