The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the guidance of its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, calls on Ndigbo at home and in the diaspora to confidently return to the South East for the Christmas and New Year festivities. IPOB affirms that the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and IPOB volunteers will continue to maintain vigilance and safeguard communities across the region throughout the holiday period.
South East Remains One of Nigeria’s Safest Regions
Despite years of politically sponsored insecurity aimed at discrediting IPOB and ESN, the South East remains one of the most peaceful regions in Nigeria. IPOB notes that recent security improvements are the result of consistent community vigilance and ESN’s proactive interventions, which have significantly diminished the impact of criminal elements allegedly backed by political actors.
The movement stresses that Ndigbo are naturally peaceful, industrious, and community-driven—qualities that sustain the safety and stability of Ala Igbo. IPOB encourages all sons, daughters, and friends of the region to return and experience the warmth, hospitality, and cultural richness of the Land of the Rising Sun during the festive season.
Ignore Exaggerated Media Reports on Insecurity
IPOB urges the public to disregard exaggerated and sponsored media narratives aimed at creating fear and discouraging people from visiting the region. While the South East, like every part of Nigeria, faces some security challenges, IPOB maintains that the situation in Igboland is relatively stable and far better than portrayed by critics.
The movement addresses recent viral claims of a kidnapping incident at Ngor Okpala on the Owerri–Aba Expressway, clarifying that the circulating video was an old clip recycled on social media. According to IPOB, no such incident occurred recently.
ESN Does Not Operate on Social Media
IPOB reiterates that the Eastern Security Network does not operate any social media accounts. Members of the public should therefore ignore self-styled pages or individuals claiming to represent ESN online. The movement states that ESN has quietly carried out numerous successful security operations that are not publicised.
IPOB asserts that the absence of widespread killings and abductions in the region is proof of ESN’s effectiveness. Those claiming ESN operatives have been neutralised, IPOB says, should explain why armed Fulani groups avoid operating in the region.
The statement invokes an Igbo proverb:
“Onye si na osimiri atala, ya tinye ukwu ya” — If you claim a river is dry, step into it.”
The Biafra Restoration Project Is Intact
IPOB states that several attempts by the Nigerian government and certain Igbo politicians to weaken ESN and dismantle IPOB have failed. According to the movement, the Biafra restoration project remains a sacred mandate backed by divine purpose, and therefore cannot be extinguished.
Call to Ndigbo: Return Home, Invest, and Celebrate Safely
IPOB encourages Ndigbo returning for the holidays to also consider investing in the region and supporting its economic growth. The movement urges the community not to allow fear-mongering or political propaganda to discourage them from reconnecting with their homeland.
As the festive period approaches, IPOB extends warm seasonal greetings and prays for safe travel on the roads, in the air, and across the seas.
