The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has reaffirmed its support for the Taminu Turaki–led National Working Committee (NWC) elected at the party’s national convention in Ibadan.

In a statement on Wednesday, Wabara emphasized that the convention was conducted in full compliance with the PDP Constitution, the Electoral Act, and all relevant regulations. He described the Ibadan gathering as reflecting the “collective will of delegates and stakeholders” from across the federation.

The BoT condemned the recent invasion of the PDP National Secretariat by individuals described as “expelled members and armed thugs,” accusing them of attempting a forceful takeover of the party complex. The attackers allegedly blocked access to the secretariat for Turaki, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, as well as governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and other party leaders.

Wabara commended the courage of governors, NWC members, the BoT, and party supporters who resisted the incursion. He also criticized media statements and public appearances by the expelled members, accusing them of deliberately distorting facts and undermining the legitimacy of the Ibadan convention.

“Their attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention and create confusion within the party structure are not only mischievous but also constitute a direct assault on the principle of internal democracy in our country,” the statement read.

The BoT urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the attack and hold those responsible accountable, stressing that democracy thrives only where institutions remain impartial, professional, and insulated from partisan manipulation.

Reiterating its commitment to preserving the unity, stability, and democratic values of the PDP, the BoT insisted that the mandate conferred on the Turaki-led NWC at the Ibadan Convention must be respected.

Wabara called on the NWC to remain focused on rebuilding and repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that distractions from expelled members should not derail ongoing reforms.
