The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects for alleged drug peddling during coordinated raids across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Dutse by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended on October 18 in Garki, Fagam, and Maigatari local government areas following intelligence-led operations.
Lawan disclosed that the suspects, whose identities were withheld, had long been on the police wanted list for their alleged involvement in the distribution of illicit substances across the state.
“During the operations, a total of 23,944 illicit drugs were recovered. Two of the suspects are from Kano State and Niger Republic,” he said.
He described the bust as one of the largest anti-drug operations recently recorded in the state, stressing the Command’s determination to curb drug abuse among youths.
“This significant seizure underscores our commitment to rid communities of dangerous drugs that continue to destroy lives, especially among young people,” Lawan added.
The police spokesperson further stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to intensify intelligence-driven operations aimed at securing lives and promoting public safety across Jigawa.
Emmynet24 news media had earlier reported on October 15 that the Command arrested 105 suspects during similar raids across the state, leading to the recovery of over 5,000 illicit substances, including cannabis and other hard drugs.
