The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has attributed the recent wave of defections by governors, senators, and other top politicians to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ongoing reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Sule stated this on Monday in Lafia, during a ceremony to welcome Senator Ahmed Wadada, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, back to the APC from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The governor commended President Tinubu for his courage in implementing bold policies aimed at repositioning the country for growth and stability.

“I want to specifically congratulate our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is because of the good reforms he is bringing in, and courageous ones for that matter, that today, every time the progressive governors meet, we are welcoming another governor into our party,” Sule said.

He revealed that during the recent meeting of APC governors in Kebbi State, the party welcomed Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and hinted that more governors were preparing to join.

“The governors, who are the leaders of their states, are seeing exactly what is happening in the country and they are running back into our party — not necessarily to win elections, but because they align themselves with the President’s policies,” he added.

Governor Sule praised Senator Wadada for rejoining the APC, assuring him and his supporters of equal opportunities within the party.

“I congratulate Distinguished Senator Wadada because if he wished, he could have stayed in his party and challenged us. But he chose to join us. I thank you for believing in our party,” the governor said.

In his remarks, APC State Chairman, Aliyu Bello, welcomed Wadada and his team, pledging a level playing field for all party members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He lauded Governor Sule for his leadership and infrastructural strides, saying his performance had continued to strengthen the APC’s appeal across the state.

“Your Excellency, you have done enough to ensure that the party progresses steadily. You’ve provided the needed infrastructure in security, education, and healthcare — that’s why people are coming to contest under our platform,” Bello stated.

On his part, Senator Wadada said his decision to return to the APC was driven by confidence in Governor Sule’s leadership and the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

“Our supporters are here in their numbers not just because Wadada called them. No matter how much they love me, if the state was not at peace, we would not have gathered here,” the senator said.

As part of his contribution to strengthening the party, Wadada donated 18 vehicles to APC leaders across the senatorial zones and local government areas of the state to aid mobility ahead of the 2027 polls.
