Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the alleged killings of three residents of Akinlalu town, Ife North Local Government Area, by operatives of the state’s Amotekun Corps.

Adeleke announced that a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and current Chairman of the Osun Amotekun Board, Wale Abbas, will lead the inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the killings and assess the involvement of the Corps Commander, Adekunle Omoyele.

The governor made the announcement on Monday during a condolence visit to Akinlalu, where he assured grieving families and injured victims that justice would be delivered.

“On the demand for the suspension of Omoyele, we are working on it,” Adeleke said.
“I have directed the Chairman of the Amotekun Board, Wale Abbas, to go to Abuja and ensure a thorough investigation. Those in the hospital are being taken care of, and the ventilator requested for the victims is already underway. Their care is my priority at this time.”

Governor Promises Medical Support, Commends Community

Adeleke, who described the killings as “painful and unfortunate,” commended the youths of Akinlalu for maintaining peace despite their grief. He urged residents to remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work.

Earlier, the town’s youth leader, Musbau Adeboye, had called for the suspension and investigation of the Amotekun Commander, alleging abuse of power and reckless use of force by operatives during the incident.

Background of the Incident

The killings occurred on September 30, 2025, when Amotekun operatives allegedly stormed Akinlalu, opened fire on residents, and killed three individuals. The attack reportedly followed a confrontation between some youths and the operatives.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed that Ibrahim Oyebamiji (26), Sefiu Oyebamiji, and Abiola Olutayo lost their lives, while Adeagbo Kadijat (22), Oke-Ila Oyebamiji (60), and Fayomi Toheeb (19) sustained gunshot injuries.

The police report further alleged that Amotekun personnel removed the corpses of the victims from the scene before the arrival of police investigators.

Amotekun Claims Self-Defence

In its response, the Osun Amotekun leadership admitted that three people were killed but claimed the operatives acted in self-defence during a gun battle with “armed hoodlums attempting to seize rifles from the Corps.”

Following public outcry, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed a special investigation team to take over the case. The team has since arrested five Amotekun operatives, while Commander Omoyele has allegedly failed to honour multiple police invitations regarding his role in the incident.

Government Assures Transparency

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice, saying his government would not shield any official found culpable.

“No life should be wasted under any guise,” he said. “The rule of law must prevail, and we will ensure justice for every victim.”
