The Sokoto State Police Command has announced that it will commence the full enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement for motorists on Thursday, October 2, 2025, following the expiration of the extended grace period.

The enforcement is in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 2004.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, warning motorists to ensure they obtain valid permits before the deadline.

“The Command strongly advises members of the public to conduct all transactions only through the official portal at possap.gov.ng and be wary of unauthorised individuals who may attempt to exploit this process for personal gain,” Rufai stated.

Application Process

According to the Command, the application involves:

  1. Creating an account with a NIN, BVN, or TIN.

  2. Account verification.

  3. Submission of vehicle details and document upload.

  4. Online payment.

  5. Final verification through vehicle inspection and biometric capture.

For motorists in Sokoto, biometric capturing will be conducted at the State Intelligence Department (SID), State Headquarters, Gwandu Road, Sokoto, at no cost.

Background

The police had earlier issued a 30-day deadline in May 2025, later extending enforcement to August 12. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, granted a final extension to October 2, 2025, citing the surge in online applications as a sign of growing public compliance.

Rufai reiterated the Command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and public safety, stressing that the enforcement is aimed at ensuring lawful vehicle use and enhancing security across the state.
