The Enugu State Police Command says it has arrested six suspects in separate operations for alleged involvement in armed robbery and cult-related activities.

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who said firearms, drugs, and other incriminating exhibits were recovered from the suspects.

Arrests and Recoveries

According to Ndukwe, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested four male suspects on August 22, around 5:00 a.m.

Recovered items included:

  • A firearm

  • One expended cartridge

  • Substances suspected to be methamphetamine (popularly known as ‘Mkpuru-miri’)

  • Other incriminating materials

Ndukwe explained that the arrests followed a confessional statement from another suspect earlier detained by officers of Abakpa Division for cultism, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the suspects belong to the Black Axe confraternity, while the other two confessed to being members of the Vikings confraternity.

In a separate operation on August 19, at about 6:30 p.m., operatives working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group stormed Ogor-Affa in Udi Local Government Area, where they arrested a 48-year-old male suspect.

A locally made pistol was recovered from him, and he confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

Police Reassures Public

Ndukwe further quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, as reaffirming the Command’s commitment to rid Enugu of criminal elements.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to promptly report suspected criminal activities to the police through the following contacts:

  • Control Room: 08032003702, 08086671202

  • Command-and-Control Centre: 112, 09134666668, 09134448093

Giwa assured that the Police Command will sustain its onslaught against violent crimes and cultism across the state.
