Former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, has said he has “moved on” following his resignation from office, while urging for peace and reconciliation across the state.
Dajoh resigned on Sunday, August 24, 2025, after serving as Speaker from June 5, 2023. His resignation came amid speculations of an impeachment plot by some members of the Assembly. He was immediately succeeded by Alfred Emberga, a previously suspended lawmaker who was sworn in as the new Speaker.
Note of Appreciation
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, Dajoh thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia, members of the Assembly, his constituents, and his family for their support during his tenure.
“It’s no longer news that I turned in a resignation letter as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, yesterday being the 24th day of August, 2025. And I have moved on,” he wrote.
He expressed special gratitude to the people of Gboko West (Gbemacha) constituency, who first elected him into the 10th Assembly, as well as his colleagues who voted him in as the first Speaker of the current legislative session.
Tribute to Supporters and Family
Dajoh also acknowledged the support of Governor Alia, staff of the Assembly, his aides, and family members. He reserved a special tribute for his wife, Kundumiyol Dajoh, describing her as “the best example of a supportive wife.”
Call for Peace
The former Speaker ended his message with a note of reconciliation, urging unity and peace in Benue State.
“Let there be peace and let’s move on. The journey is still ahead,” he wrote.
