The 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ikeja, has handed over a 36-year-old man, Animashaun Khalid, to the Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested for impersonating an Army Major.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday titled “Army Hands Over Fake Major to Police.”
According to the statement, Khalid was apprehended at the Arena Market in Oshodi with a forged Nigerian Army identity card carrying his name and the rank of Major. Soldiers who caught him immediately transferred him to the Police Command.
Hundeyin said:
“The suspect was apprehended at the Arena Market, Oshodi, with a forged Nigerian Army identity card bearing his name and the rank of Major by soldiers and was immediately handed over to the Lagos State Police Command in a seamless operation, underscoring strong inter-agency collaboration.”
He added that the case has been assigned to the Special Squad I of the Command for a detailed investigation aimed at uncovering the source of the forgery, identifying possible accomplices, and determining whether the fake identity was used in committing other offences.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the swift handover, describing it as a testament to the synergy between security agencies.
“The swift arrest and prompt handover underscores the importance of synergy among security agencies in tackling crime,” Jimoh said.
He further urged Lagos residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities, assuring that continued collaboration among security agencies would enhance safety across the state.
