Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has called President Bola Tinubu’s recent speech on the ongoing nationwide protests underwhelming.
In a broadcast on Sunday, President Tinubu addressed the nation regarding the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, which began on August 1. Protesters are demanding fuel subsidies, better living standards, reduced governance costs, lower electricity tariffs, and solutions to insecurity.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ezekwesili criticized Tinubu’s speech as a missed opportunity to offer real solutions and connect with the protesters. She said the speech read like a party manifesto and was focused on "getting back at enemies" rather than addressing the public’s concerns.
Ezekwesili condemned Nigerian leaders' refusal to take responsibility and called for the arrest of security personnel who have harmed citizens during the protests.
She urged President Tinubu to stop the violence against peaceful protesters and ensure accountability within law enforcement.
