Following the uproar sparked by viral bullying videos involving students, Lead British International School Abuja faces a three-day shutdown as ordered by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye.
The closure, confirmed by Kabiru Musa, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Education Secretariat, comes in the wake of public outrage over footage depicting students engaging in bullying acts. The first video, shared by user @moooyeeeee, showed a female student being slapped repeatedly by a classmate, igniting calls for justice. Another video emerged the next day, depicting a separate bullying incident involving male students.
In response to these incidents, Namtira Bwala, the victim in one of the videos, has demanded action from the school management, threatening legal recourse if stringent measures are not taken against the perpetrators, identified as Maryam Hassan and another student named Faliya.
In parallel, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed officers to the school premises to investigate the matter and prevent potential unrest. The school itself has initiated an inquiry and offered counseling to affected families.
