Tinubu Approves Key Appointments in Education Sector, Renews Tenures of Top Officials

President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh set of appointments across Nigeria’s education sector, including new leadership roles and the renewal of tenures for key officials in major institutions.


The approvals, announced on Wednesday in a statement by the Presidency, affect critical agencies such as the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Library of Nigeria.


According to the statement, Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed as Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO. Meanwhile, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi will continue in his role as Registrar and Chief Executive of the examination body, a position he has held in recent years.


In the technical education sector, Professor Babatunde Salako has been named Chairman of the Governing Board of NBTE. Similarly, Professor Idris M. Bugaje has been reappointed as the Executive Secretary of NBTE for a second and final five-year term, reaffirming the administration’s confidence in his leadership.


The President also approved the appointment of Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, where he will serve a five-year term. In addition, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director and Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria has been renewed for a final five-year term.


The latest appointments are part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen governance and improve service delivery within Nigeria’s education sector. The Presidency noted that the selections were based on merit, experience, and a commitment to advancing educational development in the country.
