The Katsina State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and restore public order, following the arrest of 26 suspected social miscreants during a late-night operation across Katsina metropolis.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of April 14, 2026, was executed by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, acting on credible intelligence regarding criminal activities in identified black spots within the city.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, the raid specifically targeted locations known for harbouring individuals involved in acts such as street violence, gang activities, and public disturbances. He described the exercise as part of a sustained and strategic campaign to rid the metropolis of criminal elements.
“At about 0200 hours on April 14, the officer in charge of SWAT led a team of operatives on a coordinated operation across identified criminal hideouts. The operation resulted in the arrest of 26 suspects involved in various criminal activities, including membership of gangs, unlawful societies, and acts constituting public nuisance,” the statement said.
During the operation, the police recovered a range of items believed to be linked to criminal activities. These include live ammunition, a sword, two cutlasses, a sharp knife, sticks, a saw, six suspected stolen mobile phones, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs. Among the items seized were dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and about 500 tablets of Exol, a controlled medication often abused for recreational purposes. A pair of military camouflage shirts was also recovered, raising concerns about impersonation or potential misuse.
The police noted that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon its conclusion. Authorities emphasized that due process will be followed to ensure that justice is served.
Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the SWAT operatives for their professionalism, courage, and commitment to duty. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain the tempo of operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The Command further reassured residents of Katsina of its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security, urging members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and useful information that can aid crime-fighting efforts.
This latest development highlights the intensified security measures being adopted by authorities in Katsina State as part of broader efforts to curb rising concerns over urban crime and social disorder.
