A former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has said the defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will significantly boost opposition efforts to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Eze described Atiku’s move as “bold, timely, and politically strategic,” insisting it would reposition the ADC as a major force ahead of the next election cycle.
Tinubu Has “Fulfilled ADC’s Political Dream” — Eze
Eze argued that President Tinubu’s governance has, in his view, created conditions that favour the rise of an alternative political platform.
“Tinubu has made the enthronement of ADC in 2027 come to fruition considering the level of poverty and his unpreparedness to handle the security challenges facing this country,” he claimed.
He added that poor governance under the current administration had allegedly made Nigeria “a laughing stock before the international community,” stressing that Nigerians are eager for relief and change.
Atiku’s Influence Will Strengthen ADC
The former nPDP spokesman expressed confidence that Atiku’s political pedigree would elevate the ADC’s national profile.
“Atiku will bring his wide connections, political sagacity, leadership acumen and experience to bear on the new party,” Eze said.
He also highlighted the role of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, describing him as a “proven strategist” whose experience as Director-General of Muhammadu Buhari’s successful 2015 and 2019 presidential campaigns would be an asset if he aligns with Atiku.
“With Atiku now in the ADC, and with Amaechi’s winning streak, the coast is clear for a new Nigeria,” he stated.
Calls for a Broad Coalition Against Tinubu
Although Eze has not formally joined the ADC, he assured that he would soon align with what he described as “progressives committed to rescuing Nigeria.”
He called on several prominent political figures — including Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, and others — to form a united coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He urged all Atiku supporters and advocates of “reclaiming and rebuilding Nigeria” to work together with a unified purpose to defeat Tinubu.
