A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and led by factional National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, has scheduled its Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Council (NEC) meetings for Tuesday, November 18.

According to Naija News, the announcement was contained in a notice issued by the factional National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, who confirmed that both meetings will take place at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

Anyanwu emphasised the importance of the gathering, noting that “attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed.”

Deepening PDP Crisis

The development comes just days after another faction of the party, aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, held its own national convention on Saturday. That convention—presided over by the immediate past acting national chairman, Umar Damagum—announced the expulsion of several prominent figures, including:

  • Nyesom Wike

  • Former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose

  • Samuel Anyanwu

  • Dan Orbih

In addition, the State Working Committees in Abia, Imo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River were dissolved, signaling a sweeping restructuring within the Makinde-led bloc.

The convention was attended by a number of influential party leaders, including Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau).

However, despite their presence, Governors Fintiri and Mutfwang have since publicly distanced themselves from the expulsion exercise, signalling ongoing disagreements within the governors’ ranks.

Battle for Control

The latest actions deepen the long-running internal struggle between Wike and the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde. Analysts say the expulsion moves—and the counter-meetings planned by the Wike faction—highlight a widening rift that threatens the cohesion of the opposition party.

The coming days are expected to determine whether the rival factions will escalate the confrontation or seek a negotiated political settlement as the 2026 electoral cycle approaches.
