Nigerian skitmaker and Nollywood actor Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has strongly denied an allegation circulating on social media accusing him of raping a 17-year-old girl and using the police to intimidate her family.
The allegation was made by an 𝕏 user who wrote:
“This guy actually raped a 17-year-old girl and used police to oppress her family. Now he’s an activist?”
Reacting on Wednesday, Mr Macaroni issued a lengthy response in which he described the claim as false, malicious, and politically motivated.
Macaroni: “This is a false accusation used as propaganda”
In his statement, the actor said the post originated from a supporter of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that he has frequently been targeted since he began openly criticising the administration.
“Normally I shouldn’t respond to a tweet like this because I would just be giving it more visibility. But because of the nature of the horrendous and distasteful accusation, I have to,” he wrote.
“This is a Tinubu and APC supporter. I am not new to their lies and attacks anytime I criticize their government. But this isn’t just any other attack — this is a false accusation of rape which any sane human being should never use as propaganda simply because I am holding our government accountable.”
Actor Seeks Identification of Accuser
Mr Macaroni described the accusation as dangerous and damaging, insisting that he would pursue action against the individual behind the post.
“If we don’t take actions against deranged individuals like this one, they will continue to infest society with their behaviour and project onto others who they really are,” he stated.
“I checked their profile and saw that this is what they have been doing — praising the President and government, then attacking anyone who dares criticise them. I would appreciate any information about this individual that can help us take necessary action.”
Reiterates Commitment to Criticising Government Policies
The actor stressed that he would not be deterred from speaking out on national issues despite what he described as coordinated online attacks.
“This tweet also serves as an opportunity to strongly refute this ridiculous accusation and any other kind from supporters of the APC,” he added.
“I expect their smear campaign to continue, but I will not stop criticising this government.”
Mr Macaroni, known for his activism during the #EndSARS movement, has remained a vocal critic of government policies and continues to command a large following on social media.
