Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has clarified the controversy surrounding a viral video purportedly showing the team’s poor accommodation ahead of Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon in Morocco.

The short clip, which circulated widely on social media, showed a run-down building near where the Nigerian squad is camped, prompting angry reactions from fans who assumed it was the national team’s hotel. Some users described the facility as “unfit for professional athletes” and compared it to a student hostel.

However, the Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, debunked the claims, confirming that the team is staying at Rive Hotel, a modern facility in Rabat.

“What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,” Efoghe explained. “Rive was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training ground and the match venue.”

Addressing the misunderstanding, Iwobi said his post had been taken out of context.

“I didn’t say anything; I just showed the video,” the Fulham star clarified on Snapchat. “It’s all about perspective because I snapped the view from my window, and people are thinking we’re ungrateful. I never said one thing—some people don’t even have beds.”

He added that he was comfortable in his room and fully focused on the match.

“Bro, I’m comfy. I’m playing Mario Kart. Anyways, let me go and focus — I have a big game coming up,” Iwobi said.

Meanwhile, preparations for Thursday’s clash have intensified, with 18 players already in camp at the Rive Hotel. The team is expected to reach full strength before their final training session in Rabat.
