The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will on Friday, November 7, elevate six High and Senior Chiefs on the Otun Olubadan line in accordance with the provisions of the Ibadan Chieftaincy Law.

The forthcoming promotions follow the vacancies created by Oba Ladoja’s own ascension to the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, having previously served as Otun Olubadan before his coronation on September 26, 2025.

Promotion List and New Titles

According to palace sources quoted by Vanguard, the elevation exercise is part of the city’s time-honoured rotational succession system, which preserves order, hierarchy, and stability within the Olubadan-in-Council.

The following chiefs are listed for promotion:

  • Oba Eddy Oyewole – from Osi Olubadan to Otun Olubadan

  • Oba Hamidu Ajibade – from Ekerin Olubadan to Asipa Olubadan

  • Oba Adebayo Akande – from Ekaarun Olubadan to Ekerin Olubadan

  • Senior Chief Lekan Alabi – from Maye Olubadan to Abese Olubadan

  • Senior Chief Kola Babalola – from Abese Olubadan to Ekaarun Olubadan

  • Oba Kola Daisi – expected to retain his seniority position on the Otun line as one of the most senior chiefs in council.

Ceremony to Hold at Newly Completed Olubadan Palace

The promotion ceremony will be held at the newly completed Olubadan Palace, located in Oke-Aremo, within Ibadan North Local Government Area.

A palace insider confirmed to Naija News that this will be the first traditional ceremony presided over by Oba Ladoja since his coronation.

“This event marks the beginning of His Imperial Majesty’s formal engagements as the 44th Olubadan. It also demonstrates his commitment to preserving the customs and structure that define Ibadan’s chieftaincy system,” the source said.

Symbol of Continuity and Renewal

The promotions are seen as a continuation of Ibadan’s unique rotational succession tradition, which has long been praised for its peaceful and predictable leadership transition.

Local observers note that the event will attract prominent sons and daughters of Ibadan, cultural leaders, and government officials, highlighting the deep respect accorded to the Olubadan stool.

The upcoming ceremony also carries symbolic weight — representing continuity, unity, and renewal in one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional monarchies.
