The Kogi State Police Command successfully rescued passengers stranded for several hours following the derailment of a Warri–Itakpe train in the Adogo community, Ajaokuta Local Government Area.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP William Ovye-Aya, stated that all passengers were safely evacuated to the Ajaokuta train station and later assisted to continue their journeys. He emphasized that there were no casualties.

CSP Ovye-Aya explained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, immediately deployed security personnel to the scene upon receiving the distress call. The Commissioner also personally visited the derailment site, meeting with officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and some of the affected passengers.

“He also directed the deployment of additional security personnel to safeguard lives, property, and railway facilities,” Ovye-Aya added.

The Kogi State Police reiterated their commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the safety of passengers and the protection of critical infrastructure across the state.

This derailment comes less than a week after the Warri–Itakpe train service resumed operations, following a previous incident in Agbor, Delta State, which had halted services for several weeks.
