The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, Shehu Kambile, has resigned his position as Special Assistant to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, citing his commitment to rebuilding the opposition party in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Yola, Kambile said his resignation was a strategic move to enable him to fully dedicate his efforts to strengthening the ADC as a credible opposition platform in Adamawa.

“My appointment was facilitated through the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) framework, designed to foster national cohesion.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Governor Fintiri but have to step aside and focus on my primary mandate of building a robust and effective opposition.

We crave an opposition that can provide a credible alternative for the people,” Kambile said.

He also commended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his “commitment to promoting inclusive and democratic engagement” within the ADC and called on party members to unite for the greater good of the state and the country.

“We must work together to steer the ADC toward becoming a formidable political force capable of offering constructive criticism and viable policy alternatives,” he added.

Fintiri’s Political Profile

Governor Fintiri, known for his political resilience, first rose to prominence in 2007 after winning a State Assembly seat under the now-defunct Action Congress (AC), defeating a sitting PDP lawmaker.

He later consolidated his influence by winning the 2019 and 2023 Adamawa governorship elections — both times while the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled the Federal Government.

Four months ago, APC spokesperson Mohammed Abdullahi confirmed to Emmynet24 news media that discussions were ongoing between the party and Governor Fintiri, fueling speculation of possible political realignments in the state.
