The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused some unnamed politicians of sponsoring armed thugs to disrupt the planned homecoming visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau on Wednesday, the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, said the party had received credible intelligence suggesting plans to attack the minister’s convoy and cause unrest along the Gusau–Maradun road.

“Unfortunately, we have received credible information that there is a serious, destructive plan for the minister’s visit,” Idris stated.

He alleged that the suspected thugs had already been positioned in key flashpoints, particularly around Tsafe, with the intent to create chaos during Matawalle’s scheduled visit on Thursday.

According to Idris, the visit is meant to enable the minister to meet with party leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau and Maradun, his hometown.

Despite the tension, the APC urged its supporters to remain peaceful and not retaliate under any provocation.

“We are therefore warning our members against carrying any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond to ensure peace and order,” Idris cautioned.

He also called on security agencies to take proactive measures to forestall violence and protect lives and property before, during, and after the minister’s arrival.

“We appeal to the security agencies to take this plot seriously and ensure that anyone caught attempting to cause unrest is arrested and prosecuted,” he added.

The APC assured that adequate preparations had been made for a peaceful and successful homecoming, which is expected to draw a large turnout of supporters from across Zamfara State.
