PSC Promotes Senior Police Officers, Appoints AIG Dankwara Mohammed as DIG

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dankwara Mohammed as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) representing the North-East geopolitical zone.

Mohammed replaces DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, who recently retired from active service.

In a statement issued on Friday by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission also approved the promotion of Commissioner of Police, Abibo Deinma Reuben, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Additionally, eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).

The statement listed the newly promoted Commissioners as:
Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, Morkwap Dongshal, Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf, Cletus Nwadiogbu (Deputy Commissioner, Finance and Administration, Taraba State), Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Abdulraheem Nurudeen, Patrick Daaor, and Umar Mohammed Hadejia.

The PSC further elevated thirteen Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners, and forty-four Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners.

Similarly, 412 Superintendents were promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendents, while several Deputy Superintendents were confirmed as substantive Superintendents.

The PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd), congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to demonstrate renewed commitment to the service of the nation.

He emphasised that promotion within the police hierarchy comes with “greater responsibilities and expectations.”

The latest round of promotions adds to a recent wave of advancements within the Nigeria Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and operational efficiency across commands.
