Former senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a visionary leader with a deep grasp of Nigeria’s economic realities.

Announcing his defection in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the businessman and founder of the Silverbird Group said his decision was “not for politics, but for progress.”

“I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause but by results,” he wrote.

Murray-Bruce commended Tinubu’s economic and financial reforms, describing them as bold and necessary steps toward sustainable growth.

“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe,” he said.

The former lawmaker expressed optimism that Nigeria would witness “phenomenal growth” under Tinubu’s leadership and reclaim its rightful place globally.

He also lauded the administration’s petroleum market deregulation, CBN restructuring, and infrastructural projects, including roads, ports, and airports, which he said were restoring investor confidence and driving development.

“I know it is still a difficult season for many families. But as history teaches, reform is never painless. Yet, it is in these moments of sacrifice that nations are reborn,” he added.

In May 2025, Murray-Bruce had earlier commended Tinubu for the 700km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, describing it as proof of the transformative power of visionary leadership.
