1. Fubara Meets Tinubu After Suspension, Seeks Guidance to Prevent Political Crisis
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday evening visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in what he described as a “father-and-son discussion.”
The meeting, which began around 6:20 p.m., was Fubara’s first with the President since his six-month suspension and the lifting of the state of emergency in Rivers on September 18, 2025.
Speaking with journalists afterwards, the governor said the visit was to formally brief Tinubu on his return to office and to seek advice on stabilising Rivers politics.
“He advised me on what to do and how to go in the right direction,” Fubara disclosed, adding that peace had returned to the state and that he had reconciled with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
2. House Speaker Abbas Denies Rift With Tinubu Over Borrowing Plans
House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas has dismissed reports suggesting lawmakers oppose President Bola Tinubu’s borrowing strategy.
Speaking in Abuja at the 8th Annual African Network of Parliamentary Budget Offices (AN-PBO) Conference, Abbas described such claims as “inaccurate and misleading.”
He explained that a speech delivered by the House Leader at a recent West African Parliamentary Conference was misinterpreted, stressing that both the House and the entire National Assembly support the borrowing programme.
According to him, the loans are necessary to finance infrastructure, stimulate economic growth, and support vulnerable Nigerians.
3. Nigeria’s Economy Expands 4.23% in Q2 2025 — NBS
Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.23% in real terms year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, according to new figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The report, released on Monday, shows an improvement compared to 3.48% growth in Q2 2024 and 3.13% in Q1 2025.
The agricultural sector recorded 2.82% growth, up from 2.60% a year earlier. Industry expanded sharply by 7.45%, compared to 3.72% in Q2 2024, while services grew by 3.94%, slightly above last year’s 3.83%.
4. Analyst Says Buhari Never Intended Tinubu to Succeed Him
Political analyst Jide Ojo has argued that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s actions ahead of the 2023 elections suggested he did not want Bola Tinubu as his successor.
In an interview with Naija News, Ojo pointed to the chaotic naira redesign overseen by former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, which he said “looked tailor-made to hobble” Tinubu’s campaign.
Ojo recalled that Tinubu had been instrumental to Buhari’s 2015 victory, particularly through his alliance that secured critical votes in the Southwest. He added that Yemi Osinbajo’s nomination as Buhari’s running mate was a calculated move to broaden the APC’s appeal to Christians.
He described Tinubu as “one of the most strategic politicians of his generation.”
5. Presidency Slams El-Rufai Over ‘Life President’ Remark
The Presidency has dismissed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s claim that President Bola Tinubu could become a “life president” if not stopped in 2027.
In a statement by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described El-Rufai as “hallucinating” and in need of help.
Onanuga stressed that Tinubu is a democrat committed to serving within constitutional limits, and that Nigerians, including northerners, continue to support his administration.
He added that El-Rufai’s claim was baseless and aimed at discrediting the President.
