The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed 4,500 personnel to ensure a safe and hitch-free celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary in Abuja and surrounding areas.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the FCT Command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, who said the deployment was ordered by the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu.
According to Odumosu, the personnel will provide surveillance and protect lives, property, as well as all Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) before, during, and after the celebration.
He noted that the officers were drawn from various specialised departments and tactical units of the corps, including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) unit.
“Black spots like uncompleted buildings that harbour criminals are also covered to avert security breaches,” the commandant stated.
Odumosu directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure visible presence across FCT area councils to forestall any hitches.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches, so therefore ensure you deploy your personnel adequately,” he warned.
He also charged officers to conduct themselves professionally and work in synergy with other security agencies, stressing that harassment, intimidation, or accidental discharge would not be condoned.
Odumosu urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, individuals, or groups to the nearest security agency.
He wished FCT residents a joyous 65th Independence Day celebration and encouraged them to keep faith in Nigeria while praying for national unity and prosperity.
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960. This year’s anniversary, themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” began with prayers at mosques and churches nationwide.
