The Afobaje of Ibadanland, Chief Waheed Popoola of the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, has formally placed the symbolic Akoko leaves on the head of former Oyo State Governor, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, marking an important step in his ascension as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The traditional rite, which took place at the Labosinde Compound in the Ibadan South East Local Government Area, was greeted with loud ovations from the large crowd in attendance. The event signifies Ladoja’s transition towards the Ose Meji House, where he will be officially crowned the new Olubadan.

Emmynet24 News Media reports that Ladoja became the Olubadan-designate following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Present at the ceremony were prominent chiefs and dignitaries of Ibadanland, including the Aare Latoosa, Chief Onikepo Akande, among others.

Further details on the coronation proceedings are expected.
