Vice President Kashim Shettima Responds to Nationwide Protests Against Economic Hardship
Emmynet24– Vice President Kashim Shettima has addressed the ongoing protests against economic hardship, hunger, and bad governance that have spread across Nigeria.

Speaking as a guest at an event, Shettima acknowledged the grievances of the protesters and assured them that the Federal Government is aware of their demands and is taking steps to address them.

The recent surge in prices of food and basic commodities has exacerbated the economic crisis in the country. Nigerians are experiencing one of the worst inflationary periods due to the government's removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates.

In response to these challenges, Nigerians and various civil society groups have taken to the streets to voice their discontent. The protests, which have entered their second day, have been mostly peaceful. However, reports of violence have emerged from some Northern states, where hoodlums have hijacked the protests, leading to chaotic scenes.

Emmynet24 reported that a police officer was killed by friendly fire in Katsina while attempting to disperse protesters. Additionally, reports indicate that at least 17 protesters were killed by police officers during demonstrations on Monday. Many others were injured or assaulted by security operatives while exercising their right to peaceful protest.
